Update: I returned from Sudan

Subhanallah, the trip to Sudan was eye opening to say the least. It was harrowing and heartbreaking. A country ripped apart, communities destroyed, families devastated. But in the face of all of this, the resilience of the people was inspiring.

Meet Ayesha

In one of the camps in Gadaref, I met Ayesha, a grandmother who was surrounded by grandchildren. She told me the story of how her 4 sons were killed in the war and she was left with no choice but the pick up her grandchildren and walk for survival. She walked 4 and a half days with her grand children and daughters till she reached Gadaref.

These are the brave people of Sudan, who even in the face of such horrific and painful loss, still have the strength and courage to keep going for the sake of their children and grand children.

I made a commitment to them to tell their story and support them with 3 urgent things:

1. £330 - Sustainable shelter to replace the tents they have been living in for over 2 years
2. £90 - Food packs for as many families as possible
3. £75 - Cash grants so families can buy what they need

The situation is worsening:

• 33.7 million people need humanitarian assistance.
• Over 21 million face acute food shortages.
• 638,000 people are already in famine‑like conditions.
• 3.7 million children under 5 are acutely malnourished.

What Islamic Relief Is Doing

Islamic Relief has been working in Sudan since 1984 and remains a lifeline for millions, especially where markets have collapsed and essential services have been destroyed. Their teams are providing food, medical supplies, nutrition support and emergency shelter to families who have lost everything.
