Islamic Relief UK is an international NGO founded in 1984. We are the only Muslim charity member of the DEC. Our aim is to alleviate the suffering of the world's poorest people. 

Perhaps no other group of people in Gaza has suffered as much as children have throughout Israel’s sustained attack and siege. Forced to cope with grief, fear, and uncertainty about the future, the emotional toll on them has been immense.&nbsp; <h2>Children in Gaza are facing unimaginable suffering&nbsp;</h2> Gaza has become the most dangerous place in the world to be a child. Children in Gaza are being killed relentlessly –&nbsp;around 80 children a day have been killed&nbsp;since 7th&nbsp;October. Thousands more children have been injured, many of whom have suffered life-changing injuries such as loss of limbs.&nbsp;&nbsp; Children who are still alive are being denied food, water and medicine. Some infants have now starved to death.&nbsp;An entire generation is living through trauma that most people cannot even imagine, and this will have a devastating impact on children’s long term mental health.&nbsp;&nbsp; Many children have also lost their caregivers amid the violence, leaving them orphaned and highly vulnerable. Rarely, if ever, have so many children been orphaned in such a short period.&nbsp;&nbsp; <h2>Rawa's Reality</h2> Since the recent escalations, thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in school buildings, that have been converted to emergency shelter. For many families including Rawa’s, life has changed drastically. <img src="https://amanahfy-prod.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/admin-image-1771636984524.jpeg"> Rawa and her four young children, Mohammed, Osama, Anwar, and Ala, live in a classroom at a school in Rafah with other families. They use the classroom for everything, including eating, drinking, and sleeping. The children play in the playground, and bathrooms are shared among everyone. Before the recent escalation in violence, the family rented an apartment. Rawa’s husband – a university professor and the family’s sole breadwinner – died a few years ago, leaving them without a source of income and entirely reliant on humanitarian aid and orphan sponsorship funds from Islamic Relief. Since living in the school, they face overcrowded and squalid conditions, which has been impacting their health. <h2>"Unfortunately, my children contracted hepatitis, which is widespread in overcrowded shelters. However, by the grace of Allah, we received Islamic Relief sponsorship, which brought us immense joy as it provided us with necessities such as food, drink, fruit, and even honey, which are currently priced exorbitantly and are beyond our means."</h2> <img src="https://amanahfy-prod.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/admin-image-1769481237199.jpeg"> <h2>A struggle to survive</h2> Life has changed a lot for Rawa and her children. They spend a lot of time waiting for things, such as for water to arrive, or their turn to use the bathroom. She gets her sons, Mohammed and Osama, to support with daily tasks such as getting water in the morning as she does the laundry. Rawa makes meals from the canned food they are given, as they cannot afford fresh fruits or vegetables anymore. The family has received gas for cooking, but they limit the use of and instead cook with firewood instead. <h2>"I am extremely worried about their future amidst the pressures and soaring living costs, but I am grateful to Allah for everything. I constantly pray to Allah to provide even the bare minimum for my children, after the displacement and upheaval they have endured."</h2> <h2>Hope for the future</h2> Rawa feels sad because the school is not a place to learn anymore, but a place to stay safe. Her children are unable to learn and gain an education until the current violence comes to an end.&nbsp;She dreams of a peaceful life in which her children can be whatever they want to be: a doctors or engineers. Her biggest dream is to live safely and peacefully with her family. Rawa tries hard to motivate and support them emotionally and educationally and&nbsp;teaches her children short verses from the Holy Quran.&nbsp;Her story reflects the strength of spirit and the challenges faced by displaced families in Gaza.<h2> </h2><h2>Supporting orphans and their families in Gaza</h2> Islamic Relief’s&nbsp;orphan sponsorship&nbsp;has been a lifeline for families like Rawa's in Gaza, and offers relief amidst their difficult circumstances. With regular monthly funds reaching the family of sponsored orphans, this allows them to purchase essentials and spend the funds on where they need it most. Sponsored orphans and their families in Gaza are also support by other Islamic Relief projects. We are currently on the ground providing Ramadan food packs, hot meals, hygiene packs and facilities as well as various non-food items. <h3>The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:</h3><h3>"The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,"&nbsp;and he held his two fingers together.</h3><h3>(Sahih al-Bukhari, 5304)</h3> Thank you for supporting vulnerable children in Gaza and beyond.
