To date I have been a supporter and volunteer for Islamic Relief for a number of years. I have supported a number of appeals and taken part in some challenges with them including Survival Camp, last years Dragon Boat Race organised by Al Noor school and a trip to Bosnia in support of Widows and Orphans. Its been great fun and I have taken satisfaction in whatever I have been able to do with the help and support of friends and family.

However it now time to rachet up the ambition and aim higher (and no, not AimIR!). To that end as I approach the ripe old age of 50 (approach only, not quite there yet!) what better than an overall target of £50,000 over the coming year. Split between 5 different appeals all worthy of the effort on my part in terms of a number of challenges and seeking the support of my family, friends and the community at large.

The appeals I am looking to support (in no particular order) are:

1. Yemen Crisis - Providing Food, Medicines and Medical Supplies to treat Malnutrition

2. Water for Life in East Africa - Providing a sustainable, safe and cleaning source of Water through the construction of a Microdam

3. Syria Emergency - Providing Food, Shelter, Water, Medical and other emergency response items to internally displaced Syrians as well as those in neighbouring countries like Jordan and Lebanon.

4. Myanmar - Providing Food and Shelter to internally displaced people inside Myanmar

5. #HonourHer - to help women and girls access vital health services and empower them to help protect themselves against all forms of violence

The pinnacle of this year long effort will be my first attempt at completing the London 2020 Marathon. After recovering from recent knee injuries (meniscus tears!) I think I have this one shot to get this done and tick it off my bucket list before my age really does start catching up with me! However, there will be challenges during this year too that will bear some relation to the challenges faced by those we are trying to help. Ideas and suggestions are more than welcome and please to watch this space as the specifics of those challenges are finalised. Thank you in advance and I look forward to helping you reach those in need of our support.
