Andalusia Cycle Challenge Itinerary

Dates: 5th – 12th October 2017


Day 1, October 5th – Arrival at Malaga and transfer to Cordoba 

13:00 - Upon your arrival at Malaga airport you will be greeted in the arrivals by Andalucian Routes. Once the group has gathered you will be transferred to Cordoba.

17:30 - Upon arrival check in to your hotel Eurostars las Adelfas and recoup from your flight. 

19:00 - In the evening there will be a briefing and orientation.

20:00 - Dinner


Day 2, October 6th - Cordoba

09:00 – After breakfast we will start our tour with our first stop being an interactive museum followed by a visit to the great mosque of Cordoba.

12:00 - 13:00 - After lunch we will go to the archaeological site of Medinat Al Zahra, the city built by the Caliph Abdul Rahman III. Here we see the Palace ruins and take a visit to the new exhibitions and museum. 

17:00 - We will then go on to Almodovar. Here we will be visiting local Spanish Muslims.

19:00 - The family will serve up a Halal version of the traditional Spanish food

20:00 - We will return back to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.


Day 3, October 7th – Cordoba to Zuheros

08:00 - After breakfast we will depart to a village called Zuherros outside of Cordoba city. 

09:00  -  On  the  way,  we  will  stop  in  Montilla  to  pick  up  the  bikes  and  start  the  bike journey with a 45-kilometer ride.

12:00 – Stop for lunch

14:00 – Check in to hotel Mencia Subbetica and time to explore local area

19:00 - Dinner and free time at the hotel.


Day 4, October 8th –Zuherros to Alcala La Real

09:00 – Today we will start with a 55-kilometer bike ride to the next stop Alcala La Real.

13:00 – Lunch stop

15:00 - Upon arrival you will check in to Hotel Hospederia Zacatin.

16:00 – Free time and explore local area

19:00 - Dinner and free time at the hotel.


Day 5, October 9th  – Alcala La Real to Granada

08:00 - After breakfast we will depart for Granada, a 55-kilometer journey. Granada was the last Muslim Kingdom, which held out for 250 years before the inevitable fall in 1492.

13:00 - Upon arrival we will check into Hotel Macia Condor.

14:00 - Short city tour including the Al Baicin and free time for shopping etc.

17:00 - Visit to Granada Mosque where you can experience one of Europes most popular view points. 

19:00 - Return to hotel for dinner. 


Day 6, October 10th – Granada

08:00 - After breakfast there will be free time until lunch.

13:00 - Lunch

14:00 - After lunch there will be a lecture/presentation after which we will make our way to the Alhambra. This is usually the highlight of the tour for many. Nominated a wonder  of  the  world  the  visit  to  the  Palaces,  gardens,  and  fort  will  leave  you breathless.  The visit to the Alhambra could take up to 4 hours.

19:00 – After dinner there will be free time to explore the city.


Day 7, October 11th – Granada to AlPujarra

09:00  –  After  breakfast  there  will  be  the  final  bike  ride  approximately  40-kilometers to the lower Sierra Nevada mountain region. This will complete the bike journey

14:00 – Lunch

16:00 - We will be departing for the AlPujjara Mountains along the route of Nasrids. On the way we will stop at the old Muslim bridge and the Muslim fort/castle, which is the location of one of the last stands made by the Muslims of Alpujjara.

18:00 – We will then go on to Orgiva, here we will have a chance to interact with the local Muslim community while having dinner at a Muslim restaurant run by a Spanish Muslim revert.

20:00 – Check in to hotel Puerta Nazari for the night.


Day 8, October 12th – Al Pujarra to Malaga

10:00 - After breakfast we will set off for Malaga

13:00 - Arrive at Malaga and say final farewells, optional to chill in the city centre for a few hours before getting your return flights.
